Treating Hearing Loss is Essential for those with Alzheimer's Disease

I have seen firsthand how effectively improving the hearing of these individuals can greatly impact their everyday lives and improve their relationships. Evidence shows that:

  • Untreated hearing loss can further impair language processing and short term memory skills
  • People affected by Alzheimer’s typically have a higher rate of hearing loss, yet many do not seek hearing health intervention
  • Un-diagnosed hearing loss can play a large role in the evaluation of dementia from a medical perspective
  • Hearing instruments, when appropriately fit, can greatly improve the quality of life for the individual with Alzheimer’s and his or her loved ones

I have had the privilege to work with many patients affected by Alzheimer’s disease and their families.  When loved ones are heard, and the communication needs of all involved are met, the result is true success!  The good news is that it gets better.  Once these patients have the power of hearing again, the impact in their quality of life is remarkable!  I can’t think of a better job than this.

If you or a loved one is concerned about possible hearing loss with a family member affected by Alzheimer’s disease, I encourage you to have their hearing checked.  Go and see what opportunities are available for improved quality of life through better hearing solutions.
